Women’s Institute Annual Meetings

Institutes belonging to the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes have recently held 'annual meetings as follows:

Spencerville. Mary Scott is the most popular writer among the members of the Spencerville C.W.1., who took a roll-call on the theme, “My favourite author,” at their first annual meeting. Mrs C, D. Newton, voluntary organiser, and Mrs M. Marsh, of the Canterbury federation, attended. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs M. Edwards; vice-president, Mrs H. Robinson; secretary, Mrs B. Osbahr; treasurer, Mrs F Wright; committee, ‘ Mesdames O. Gwatkin, D. Jackson, J. Scott, R. Tanner, V. Teague. Bryndwr.—Mrs W. Anderson, voluntary organiser, was the speaker at the twentieth annual meeting of the Bryndwr C.W.I. Mrs J. McDiarmid of the Canterbury federation also attended. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs A. A. Barron; vice-presidents. Mesdames R. H. Menzies and N. Roberts; secretary, Mrs J. E. McLachlan; minute secretary, Mrs M. R. Macaree; treasurer, Mrs V. G. Ellems; committee. Mesdames M. Godfrey. A. Wallace, V. C. Curtis, W. L. Mclntosh, J. T. Nuttall. P. Harris, J. Higham. Burwood.—An address was given by Mrs K. Kellaway, voluntary organiser, at the annual meeting of the Burwood C.W.I. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs M. Cronin; vicepresidents. Mesdames M. McNeil and M. Kilgour; secretary, Mrs M. Hayward;, treasurer, Mrs R. Trott; committee, Mesdames R. Anderson. D. Grey, S. Ritchie, E. M. Starr, A. Riley, D. Vincent, E. Woodley, Miss B. Blyth.

Lyttelton.—An address on institute procedure was given by Mrs E. Holmes, voluntary organiser, at the fourth annual meeting of the Lyttelton C.W.I. Mrs R. H. Hayman. of the Canterbury federation, attended. Presentations were made to Mrs E. Green, the retiring president, and Mrs F. Barratt, the retiring secretary. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs F. Barratt: committee, Mesdames H Childs. A. Donnelly, C. Gilmore. P Meclein, H Herdman, T Marshall. J. McDonald. D. O’Donnavan, G. Porteous. H. Pluck, M. Loader. Mairehau.—Mrs F. W. Zimmerman presided at the annual meeting of the Mairehau C.W.I. The following officers were elected:—President. Mrs J. R. Taylor; vicepresidents, Mesdames C. Clark and J. R-. Walter; secretary, Mrs H. F. Litolff: minute secretary, Mrs S. Rowberry; treasurer, Mrs R. H. Hayman; committee. Mesdames W. Avis, E. Becker, w. Bigg, R. E. Brand, C. Clark, R. H. Hayman, A. M. Johnston, H. F. Litolff, G Parry, S. Rowberry, J. R. Walter.
