Grounds Lack Facilities Nx> competition Rugby football will be played on the new Hoon Hay grounds this season and possibly not for two or three years, unless proper facilities for players are installed. In a letter received by a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening, tn* Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) informed members that it would not be possible to allocate to the union during the forthcoming season the three Rugbv football grounds at Hoon Hay Park as requested. •'Although this park has been developed it will not be possible to provide dressing sheds and conveniences until si'ch time as the sewer is installed in the district, perhaps in two or three years’ time. “In the meantime, the council would raise no objection to your union using the grounds for practice purposes, but without the necessary amenities, it is not felt that the park should be used for competition matches,” Mr Feast concluded Sub-Unton Matches Matches for the Southbridge and Munro Shields would in future be played for on a competition basis, the secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Subunions (Mr F. J. Foley) informed the union by letter. His application for approval of rules for the competitions, was referred to a committee for action. I>ast season an innovation had been adopted whereby the games for the shield* had been played on a competition basis instead of, as they had previously been, by challenge. The challenge rules had been set aside temporarily and the competition method hat found such favour that it had been resolved to adopt it permanently. Mr Foley explained. Permission was granted for the Christchurch club’s under 20 team of last season to travel to New South Wales in August Eroviding the local competition concluded. The visit is expected to last about three weeks. Mr K. C. Allsop, secretary of the club, has been appointee manager. It was reported that the union spent about £lOO each year on supplying schools with goal posts.
