CLASH WITH CRICKET

Discussion By Union

Allegations by the Canterbury Cricket Association that some Rugby clubs had encroached on the cricket season by holding their opening days in March met with a mixed reception at last evening’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby union. Some members felt that the complaint was not worthy of cricket, and others agreed that it should be considered in the spirit in which it was meant. The union had no jurisdiction over when the clubs held their opening days, said Mr C. H. McPhail. It was agreed to reply pointing this fact out. and to also inform the Cricket Association that the matter had been accentuated by the fact that Easter had been earlier this year. The reply will be sent to all clubs. The chairman (Mr H. C Blazey) said the union was not entitled to occupy the grounds under the control of the Christchurch City Council’s reserves department until April 1, Sub-Committees The following sub-commit-tees were approved:— Finance.—Messrs H.
