(N.Z. Prerr Association) WELLINGTON, April 4. 'Hie bound and gagged body of a woman was, found in a small, burned-out room in a Wellington boarding-house tonight. The woman, Miss Elsie Nicolson, aged 51, was a boarder at the bouse, which is in Tonks avenue, off Abel Smith street. Firemen, called to the blaze by an unknown person before 9 p.m., found the 9ft by 9ft room securely bolted from the inside. A fire escape led to a single window. The room is on the first floor of a large, old, wooden house. Firemen barely managed to warn two women, who were in an adjoining room, before flames from Miss Nicolson’s room leapt into a passage and enveloped a large part of the floor. Detective-sergeant H. Baldock found Miss Nicolson lying on her bed between two mattresses. She was gagged with a bright red piece of material, and was bound to the steel bedframe with a thick leather strap.
