I Balls In Tree When cutting rotten wood ; from a copper beech tree in Christchurch recently a man found two golf balls, one of = which was well preserved, embedded in the trunk of the tree. A large low branch had been trimmed from the tree 12 to 13 years ago, said the owner of the property, and the rotted wood was being removed to prevent I further decay. The bails .were about three inches in- ’ i side the trunk’s outer edge. l lt is thought that the balls r; have been there for about jj 40 years as the present , owners have been in the 1 house for 11 years and those , before them for 25 years. . Neither owner has played ’ golf on the lawn in that ! time. The balls are of the 1 ■ same composition as modem . I balls—lead centre with rub--5 ber wound around it.
