THE SECOND OF NEW ZEALAND’S NEW FRIGATES, H.M.N.Z.S. Taranaki, was commissioned at Cowes, Isle of Wight, last week. These photographs show the frigate at her berth and a general view during the commissioning ceremony. Laid down at Cowes in June, 1959, and launched by Lady Freyberg in August of that year, the Taranaki will be ready to join her sister ship, H.M.N.Z.S. Otago, in New Zealand towards the end of this year.
