Soccer SHAMROCK WINS 3-0

Wanganui Side Beaten Shamrock beat the touring Wanganui Technical Boys’ soccer team by 3 goals to 0 in a scrappy match at Riccarton Domain yesterday afternoon. This was the last match of a three-match tour by the northern side, which lost 7-1 to High School Old Boys in Dunedin on Saturday and beat a Tlmaru side. Northern Hearts, 5-3, on Sunday. Understandably, the Wanganut side was a little jaded, but a few players showed individual talent. Wanganui had nothing to compare with the efficient combination of W. Yates and J. Price in the Shamrock side, but these in their turn found little support from their fellows in the forward line. Only half of the regular first division side took the field, Yates in particular was in the thick of the game all the time. He scored one good goal and made openings for others. He received good support from the effervescent Price, who was always looking for something to do. The other Shamrock forwards did not compare. The newest acquisition. J. van Broeckhuysen, showed that he could control the ball and beat his man, but had no knowledge of where to pass. K. Pollitt P. Fletcher and H. Verdallan showed out on defence. Pollitt was especially dangerous when the ball was in the air. and his control in heading was a feature. Fletcher, playing very deep, was impassable. V. Lapslie deputised for the international. J. Gallaghan, in goal, and did a good job. R. Stuthbridge and D. Stewart, inside-right and inside-left, were the best of the visiting forwards. The diminutive Stu th - ridge was his team’s best forward in the first half. Stewart lasted the match better than did his team mates, and made some nice movements in the closing stages. The captain. H. Dodds, of right-half, was adequate, and F. Vincent, who played only in the first half, defended well on the other side of the field. Tn his absence after the interval, Yates and Price had more room in which to move. Goals for Shamrock were scored by Yates, Price and N. Donnelly. Mr P. Donnelly was referee.
