HEAVY TRAFFIC AT ASHBURTON

No Accidents Reported Traffic was exceptionally heavy through Ashburton yesterday, but up to a late hour last night, no accidents had been reported to the Ashburton police. The number of cars on the roads yesterday was possibly increased by the Easter gymkhana at Chertsey Hundreds of cars filled the car parks there, and there were) long lines parked on each side of the main road for most of the day. Last evening, a reporter counted 260 cars travelling north on the main road between Ashburton and Rakaia between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The majority of these motorists were keeping well within the spebd limits, and there was very little overtaking.
