Obituary COMMODORE A. I. ROBERTSON
Commodore A. I. Robertson. a former aide-de-camp to King George VI, died recently in London He was 63. He will be remembered by many New Zealanders as master of the Ruahine. Commodore Robertson joined the New Zealand Shipping Company in 1919 He served as chief officer in many well known ships and commanded the Empire Flag, Kent, Cornwall. Rakaia. Norfolk. Rimutaka. and Ruahine. In 1950 he was appointed a Royal Naval Reserve aide-de-camp to King George VI He was promoted to the rank of commodore in the Royal Naval Reserve in 1952. MR A. WILLIAMSON Mr Alexander Williamson, who spent his youth working on gold dredges at Cromwell, Otago, died recently He was 96 Born in London, Mr Williamson came to New Zealand when he was two. In 1910 he came to Christchurch and opened a shoe repair shop in Papanui road and stayed in business until about 20 years ago when he retired. Mr Williamson led an active life, taking an interest in gardening. He enjoyed following cricket and bowls, which he gave up many years ago. He also played chess and draughts. Mr Williamson’s wife, who died eight years ago, was the daughter of the first white woman born in Nelson. They had three daughters and two sons.
