BOWLS Eight Fours Qualify In Easter Tournament
Eight fours, by winning all six games have qualified for post-section play in the Christchurch Bowling Centre's Easter fours tournament. which was continued on Saturday. The first three rounds were decided on Friday and another three on Saturday. There are 13 lours with five wins, and they require to win one of the two games to be played today if they are to go forward. Nineteen fours have four wins. They will have to win both games today if they are to qualify.
On Saturday the gusty wind made accurate drawing extremely difficult and for a bowl to finish within five feet of the kitty was very good. Bowling was difficult on the town greens, but it was much worse on the Rangiora green. The wind there was the deciding factor as to who had the shot. When the wind got behind the bowls they started to increase their pace and usually finished up in the ditch or else well over in the next rink. Bowls were sent away with good force to fight the head wind, but when they started to die and take the turn into the kitty they started to swing back up the green and often came back as much as nine feet. In spite of the difficult conditions. two fours came through the day at Rangiora with three wins. Possible Qualifiers The greatest interest will today probably be in section D at the United green. In this section there are no six winners but four have five wins and two have four wins.
Powell (Christchurch) with five wins will in his first game meet Evans < Fendalton», who has four wins. Evans will be striving hard to win his first game and then should have a good chance of winning his second. Should Powell go down to Evans in his first game he should qualify by winning his next.
Henderson (Elmwood) is the luckiest of those requirings wins today to qualify for in both his games he meets fours with no chance of going forward. A great game should be seen between Deavoll (Sydenham) and Gallagher (United* in the first game of the day. Both these skips have five wins and one must qualify at the end of this game. Whoever loses still has a good chance of qualifying, for both these skips meet in the final game a four now out of the running. Connelly W.M.C.) will have to play well, for although he is meeting fours with no chance, both his opponents could cause an upset and Connelly wants both games to qualify. Section A will also be very interesting as there are five fours with four wins. Each of these fours will have to win both games to go forward. It is possible that none may succeed for they are meeting one another, and also playing Yugovich (Beckenham). who has already qualified with six wins. With the draw as it is for the last two games, it is possible for three of the four-winners to qualify, but they will have a very hard task. In section F. Gray (Elmwood) has already Qualified with six wins and the only other skip with any chance is Anderson (Linwood) with four wins. Anderson will not have an easy passage, for he will meet strong skips in Dailey (Fendalton) and Roberts (Cashmere). T. Wallace. (United), the .winning skip of this tournament last year, is now out of the running as he has lost too many games to allow him to qualify.
