KIDNAP PLOT?
Daughter Of Kennedy PALM BEACH (Florida), March 31. United States Secret Service agents and police were investigating reports that a group of pro-Castro Cubans were plotting to kidnap Caroline Kennedy, the three-vear-old daughter of the United States President, news agencies said tonight. United Press International said the alleged plot was first reported about a week ago. American Associated Press first quoted Palm Beach police officers as saying they had no knowledge of the plot. But the agency said later it had learned on "excellent authority” that the Secret Service had been investigating reports for about a week. Security precautions around the President's family were normally tight, but might have been increased because of the reported threat.
U.P.I. said. The President, his wife, and their two children are spending the Easter holidays at the home ot the President’s father, Mr J. P. Kennedy. “No Comment”
Asked about the alleged threat the chief of the Secret Service (Mr U. Baughman) answered: "No comment.”
Asked about reports of the investigation at a news conference, Mr Pierre Salinger, President Kennedy’s press secretary, said: “The Secret Service gets information from time to time on the President and his family which requires a routine investigation. There is such a routine investigation underway.”
