WELLINGTON. April 2. Ruve and Arid fought out a close finish to the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double, on the first day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. Ruve got the decision by a nose. The second leg. the Martinborough Handicap, went to the New Zealand Derby winner. Sol d’Or, which came with a fast run from the back and won going away. Ruve and Sol ‘d’Or paid £lO7B 2s 6d for £l. The weather was showers* and

the track in good order. There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £68,030, an increase of £3741 on last year’s first day figures.
