MR C. HAINS WORTH “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, April 2. : Mr C. P. Hainsworth, gen-j eral manager of the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition, 19251926. and of the Centennial Exhibition in Wellington in 1940, died in Dunedin recently. He was 86. Born in Bradford. England. Mr Hainsworth had a varied career, managing seven exhibitions in Scotland. England. and New Zealand. After the centennial exhibition, Mr Hainsworth retired to his son's fruit property at Ettrick. A widely travelled man, Mr Hainsworth began his career of managing exhibitions in 1904, when he was assistant general manager .of the City of Bradford Exhibition in England. Mr Hainsworth came to New Zealand in 1924 to manage the South Seas Exhibition in Dunedin, and shortly afterwards he returned to England to manage the North-east Coast Exhibition in Newcastle-on-Tyne from 1927 to 1936. Soon after this exhibition finished Mr Hainsworth returned to New Zealand to manage the Centennial Exhibition. He is survived by a son. DR. H. E. WEBB A well known Christchurch medical practitioner. Dr. Hugh Edward Webb, died in Christchurch recently. He was aged 79. Dr. Webb retired from practice about two years ago. He was educated at the University of Otago and made several post-graduate trins overseas. He practised in Martinborough for many years before coming to Christchurch in 1937 where he remained until his death. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs A. I. Cottrell, of Christchurch, and Mrs W Hogg, of Melbourne. MR R. G. LAKING (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 2. Mr Robert George La king, father of Mr G. R. Laking, New Zealand’s Ambassador to Washington, died, in an Auckland nursing home on Saturday. He was 76 Mr Laking was a well known Onehunga identity and for many years owned a tailor's business. He was a Justice of the Peace.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
