Lincoln Telephone Service
Sir, —As a regular user of the telephone service in the Lincoln exchange. I would like to express the opinion of myself and others. The waiting time for calls to Christchurch is usually 15 minutes, and on very busy occasions, which are not infrequent, up to half an hour. Recently I had occasion to * send a call from the Chief Post Office in Christchurch and, while the Lincoln line took 20 minutes to get through, three people booked calls to Leeston and all managed to get through before me. Surely this indicates that the traffic on the Lincoln lines warrants automatic connexions with the city from the township, which is no further afield than Kaiapoi or Lyttelton. Perhaps the Post Office has some encouraging comment?—Yours, etc., PUZZLED. March 21, 1961. [The toll lines between Lincoln and Christchurch are at present adequate to provide a high grade of service; in fact, only infrequently are calls not connected piomptly, aaid the Chief Postmaster (Mr C. J. C. Simpson). He added: "Delays could occur which are beyond the control of the Host Office, such as the called number already being engaged, fl®. * local or a toll call of due to the popularity of the telephone being called. If your correspondent should care to call, I would be happy to discuss the matter with him.”]
