SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS
Results Announced The counting of votes In the election of boards of governors of Christchurch post-primary schools has now been completed. The required number of nominations were received for five of the schools, said the returning officer (Mr P. J. Halligan) on Thursday. Nominees elected unopposed were:— Avonside Girls’ High School.—Messrs A. W. Baxter and H. Beattie, Mrs M. Morrison. Linwood High School.— Mesdames A. J. McDonald and J. E. L Pocock, Mr A. A. Scott. Papanui High School.—Mr R. C. Chilvers, Mrs K. A. Hamilton, Mr D. F. Prestney. Riccarton High I ihool.—Mr M. C. Butler, Mrs B. B. Irvine, Mr A. J. Lazarus. Shirley Boya’ High' School. —Messrs G. Burns. G. S. Gardner, W. M. Wright. Results from the voting for the other four schools were: Cashmere High School.— Messrs G. D. Falloon, 738 votes, R. G. Knowles, 527, Mrs P. B. Yandle, 520 (elected); Mrs M. G. Courtier 435, Mr G. W. Drayton 354. Informal, 40. Christchurch Boys' High School.—Messrs R. G. Compton 672, C. H. McPhail 562, Mrs M. J. Presland 449 (elected); Mr C. H. Plimmer 402, Mrs E. B. Eaton 317, Mr I. G. Reynolds 317. Informal, 31. Christchurch Girls' High School.—Mrs A. M. Landreth was elected unopposed as the only woman nominee; Messrs A. N. Mackay 494, and C. L. Harper 467 (elected); Mr K G. King 222. Informal, 5. Christchurch West High School.—Mr R. J. Eatwell 357, Mrs G. McG. Carter 310, Mr W. W. Brough 297 (elected); Mrs A. McGifford 272, Messrs F. H. Wright 245, G. N. Read 164. Informal, 18. Messrs O. C. Mitchell and R. H. Truscott have been reelected representatives of associations of employers in local industry, and Messrs J. Sturrock and J. Palmer similarly re-elected for employees on the Papanui High School Board.
