FIELD SERVICE OF RED CROSS

Linwood-Avonside Sub-Centre A talk on the work of a field service officer of the Red Cross Society was given at the recent annual meeting of the Linwood-Avonside subcentre of the society. In the absence of the president (Mrs P. Cowper), the vice-president (Mrs M. I. Browne) presided. The sub-centre had given help in collecting for the Aged People’s Welfare Council and with the preparation of vegetables for the Good Neighbour Service, it was reported. Hospital visiting had been undertaken, contributions of comforts and knitted goods for elderly and child patients at Burwood Hospital had been made, and tobacco gifts distributed to 100 per cent, disabled servicemen. Clothing and knitted goods had been sent to the centre. Members had taken part in the annual street appeal and from their efforts £4l 3s 5d had been added to centre funds. Members had also assisted at the annual Red Cross market. One member was giving assistance with meals during the lunch hour period at the Cerebral Palsy School. Gifts had been given to the spring party tor the elderly folk who received meals from the Good Neighbour Service.
