CUT IN PAY OF FIREMEN

* Restoration In Auckland

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 31. Auckland firemen are to be repaid the amount they were penalised for not returning to normal duties on February 3. The Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board decided to restore the 20 per cent wages cut imposed as’ an anti-strike measure. The men took up normal duties, on full pay, the following day. Boards in the four main centres agreed to the cut said the chairman (Mr S. A. Gleadow). Dunedin did not reduce pay because the men returned to normal duties. Christchurch had already had a strike, and imposed the penalty automatically. Wellington and Auckland agreed to impose the 20 per cent reduction on February 3. but Wellington went back on the agreement Four members said that their earlier decision was influenced by the attitude of the WeUlngton board. Since Wellington had not reduced the pay of its firemen, Auckland should not continue with the penalty.
