BRITAIN AND E-E-C.
Mr Holyoake’s Views (N.Z. Pre»« Association) WELLINGTON, March 31. “I am convinced that the United Kingdom Ministers fully appreciate New Zealand’s problems and the damage that could be done to New Zealand’s trade and economy If the United Kingdom entered the European Economic Community or became associated with it without making adequate compensatory arrangements for selling New Zealand produce in the United Kingdom and countries of the E EC. or Europe for that matter,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) on his return today from hia overseas tour. “My impression is that Britain Is less close to joining or being associated with the European Economic Community than I felt she was before I left New Zealand.” he said. He considered that talks between United Kingdom Ministers and E.E.C. members were much more in the nature of exploratory discussions than negotiations. They could in no sense be called negotiations preparatory to entering into, or associating with. E.E.C. by Britain. “They are purely exploratory,” said Mr Holyoake.
