DELAYS TO SHIPPING

While he was in Britain the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) discussed delays to shipping in New Zealand ports with representatives of the Conference Lines. When he arrived back from his overseas tour today Mr Holyoake said the representatives Mid that there was an average delay of seven days in turning round each cargo ship. The burden fell on the shipping companies and was taken into account when freight rates were being j negotiated. The increase had p ,or by the People of New Zealand. Mr Holyoake said the answer Was the co-ordination of transport folios under one Minister and the easing of restrictions on road transigort, to give greater flexiThe shipping companies had jointed out that the delays were not just on the wharves.
