CAT FEVER OUTBREAK
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, March 27.
An outbreak of cat fever in Auckland has forced the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to discontinue its “homes-for-cats” service until at least April 26, said the secretary (Mr J J Lougheed).
The large number of cats and kittens which the society housed together, while the animals were waiting for new owners, greatly increased their chances of contracting this highly contagious fever.
Vomiting, refusal to eat and listlessness were the main symptoms, said Mr Lougheed. Owners whose cats had contracted the fever should take them to a vetennary surgeon for injections.
