£420 DAMAGE TO CAR
Youths Remanded For Sentenee CN.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 27. Two youths converted a £5OO car in Howick to tow their broken-down car back to Auckland, and then the converted car was driven to Point Chevalier, the handbrake released, and the car allowed to roll down a cliff and crash into the rocks below, damaging it to the extent of £420. The police prosecutor (Mr J. A. McCarthy) said this in the Auckland Magistrate's Court today when Michael Huia Whitford, aged 19, a driver, and Gary Desmond Cooney, aged 18, a butcher, admitted three joint charges —car conversion, mischief by wilfully damaging the vehicle, and shopbreaking and theft. Cooney admitted a further charge of theft The accused were convicted and remanded for sentence by Mr G. H. Sinclair, S.M. until March 30.
