Representation Proposals The new council of the autonomous University of Canterbury will have up to 20 members if a draft constitution recommended by the council yesterday receives Government approval and becomes law. The new members would be:— Ex Officio: The Mayor of Christchurch and the ViceChancellor of tht university or his deputy. Appointed members: Three persons appointed by the Governor-General for a term of three years, one to retire each year; up to three members appointed by the university council for a term of three years and to be eligible for re-appointment for one more term only, after which there must be a lapse of one year before he again becomes eligible: one person appointed by the Canterbury Agricultural College board for a term of three years. Eelected members: Six persons elected by the Canterbury Court of Convocation ‘graduates), for a term of three years, two to retire each year; one person elected by post-primary school boards i nthe university district for a term of thre years; three professors elected by the professorial board for a term of three years, one to retire each year; one university teacher of lesser rank elected by lecturers fo ra term of three years. It is stipulated that none of the teaching staff members may be appointed chancellor or pro-chancellor.
