NEW BRIGHTON INQURIES

C. C. Devine, the driver of the New Brighton Cup winner, Teryman, and O. M Quinlan, the driver of Zenith, were questioned after the. race on Saturday about the checking of Zenith with three-quarters of a furlong to run. No further action was taken. King's Red. driven by A. K Holmes, broke near the six furlongs in the McKenna Handicap. The stipendiary stewards’ report said King’s Red went into an opening where there was insufneient room and touched the sulky wheel of Abu Simbel. Before the Autumn Handicap the club’s veterinary surgeon was authorised to examine Dianthus Girl. His report said Dianthus Girl’s sight was affected to a degree in one eye. If the condition deteriorated she would be unfit to race. After the Burwood Handicap, D. C. Watts (Sentimental) and L. G. Frost (Lucky Tryax) were questioned about the breaking of their horses. It wss found il.at each horse broke when It touched a sulky because of a slackening of pace. T. W. Allcock, driver of Oreti in th* Esplanade Handicap, was found guilty of careless driving causing interference to Glenoware, driven by D. J. Townley, near the seven furlongs. Allcock was fined £l5. Before the Waimairi Handicap, R. H. Beck, the ownertrainer of Huntingdon, was ordered to remove the half hopples used on the horse. Beck wa* fined £5 under rule 276 (a).
