LIFE BOY LEADERS

Initial Training Course Held

It was very important that a boy should join some youth organisation such as the Life Boys to prepare him for the responsibilities of manhood, said the Canterbury areas supervisor of the Life Boys (Mr W. Bishop) when he officially opened the initial training course for its leaders in Christchurch on Saturday.

"The Life Boy programme, based on a four-sided symbol of spiritual, social, physical and educational properties, provides scope for the allround development of a boy.” he said.

About 40 new leaders from Kaiapoi. Rangiora, and Christchurch attended the day’s course, which was held Columba Church hall. The course is believed to be the largest ever held in the Canterbury area. Instruction was given in religious training, story-tell-ing. team organisation, programme planning. ’ and leadership. and practical periods were given. Model team demonstrations, under the control of Mr W Cate, were provided by 24 members of the 3rd. Bth. and 23rd Christchurch companies. AH the leaders who attended are now eligible to attend the national training course to be held in Christchurch in June, when leaders from all parts of the Dominion will participate.
