DEAN RUSK ARRIVES
Solidarity Urged
BANGKOK, March 26. The American Secretary of State (Mr Dean Rusk) said that the S.E.A.T.O. Treaty nations needed complete solidarity both to preserve the security of the area and to achieve economic and social development when he arrived in Bangkok today. In a prepared statement, he said: “I look forward to this opportunity to consult with the Foreign Ministers of member States and to consider with them how we can move together to bring peace and security to the treaty area.” Answering reporters' questions, Mr Ausk said the United States fully supported Britain’s plan for a threestage settlement in Laos. Asked if he expected the Soviet Government to react favourably, Mr Rusk said: “The British proposals have been made so we must see what tiie answers are.” Mr Rusk would not comment on the latest developments in Laos as he said he had not yet been briefed by American officials. Referring to the Russian reply, Mr Rusk said: “I would not want to predict that which presumably we will be hearing shortly about.”
