NO CARGOES OF MEAT
Line’s Efforts Unsuccessful
(N.Z. Preax Association) AUCKLAND. March 24 The new owners of the former island steamer Maui Pomare. the Australian Pacific ' Shipping Company of Hong Kong has been unable to get any cargoes of New Zealand meat for Eastern markets according to the company's managing director (Mr James Lee'.
He said today he considered "some pressure had been pot on the meat companies."
“I am very disappointed that there are no shippers requiring our services and facilities.” said Mr Lee. “I want to help the export trade, but the ship will be leaving in ballast “I made a special trip to Wellington and talked to meat merchants there. However. the next day the negotiations were temporarily suspended. “In Hong Kong we have plenty of frozen mutton imported from Australia but very little from New Zealand. I believe the cost of New Zealand meat cargoes, including the freight rate, is competitive.”
