Heavy Track Expected

March 24 Heavy rain today has left the Invercargill track in a sodden state for the Birchwood Hunt’s annual meeting tomorrow when the steeplechase season will begin. With the Riverton Easter carnival next week the form tomorrow will be followed with interest. If nothing else the stocks of the mudlarks will firm in favour. The double will be on the President’s Handicap and the Otautau Hack Handicap, for which Solus and Blue Haven may be the respective favourites. Selections:— 10.30 a.m.—Novice Stakes No 1: John Mac. Queen of Travee. Amurna. 11 a.m.—Hlghwelght Handicap: Sports Date, Cassius, Gold Creek. 11.40 a.m.—President’s Handicap: Solum, Vamoose, Com12.10 S. Hazlett Memorial Steeples: Silver Spring. Bayline. Mananui. 12.40 p.m.—Novice Stakes No. 2: Sal’s Pride, Mulvey. Bilbob. 1.10 p.m.—Otautau Hack Handicap: Blue Haven, Superphosphate, Salatan. 1.40 p.m.—Gardner Memorial Steeples: Tadpole. Delarmo.
