QUARANTINE ON WORKS

Diseased Cow Killed

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 24. J. C. Hutton (New’ Zealand) Ltd’s works at Eltham were placed in quarantine today after a meat inspector had found symptoms of a serious disease in a cow carcase. The Stratford farm from which the cow was brought to the w'orks for killing has also been isolated. Workers were allowed to leave the Eltham plant after they had been sprayed with disinfectant. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Gillespie) said tonight that as the case seemed to have unusual circumstances precautions were taken. A post-mortem examination of the cow was made at the works, but it would probably be some days before the results were available, he said.
