RECRUITS FOR MALAYA

Campaign Next

Month

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 17.

A recruiting campaign for the Ist Battalion, New Zealand Regiment, will open on April 5. The battalion will replace the 2nd Battalion, now in Malaya, in November.

Certain key personnel from the regular army had already been chosen and posted, the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre)- said today. The re-cently-appointed commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel L. A. Pearce, was at present in Malaya making preliminary arrangements.

Men enlisting would be joining the Regular Army, said Mr Eyre, and if suitable they would be posted to the Ist Battalion.

He said applicants must be medically fit to serve anywhere in the world and should be between 21 and 35. Single men and those with no previous Malayan service would be preferred for overseas service. Twenty-year-olds could be posted providing their parents gave their consent.
