Announcing the award to Brooks, who plays for the Beckenham club in the senior reserve grade of the association’s inter-club competitions, Mr Atkinson said (that some slightly older juniors might have had better (playing records this season, but were over the age limit (for the New South Wales 'age tournament. ( The age tournament was

played in under-13, under--15 and under-17 grades, said Mr Atkinson, and Brooks would be able to play in the under-17 section. Other juniors considered, aged 17, would not be eligible for this section. Brooks would also play in the secondary schoolboys’ championship at the same meeting. This was open to all schoolboys. Brooks has a fine record in junior competition this season. He won the under-17 boys’ singles at the Canterbury junior championships, and the junior title at the secondary schoolboys' championships. He has also done well in the senior reserve competition. Mr Atkinson expressed the thanks of the association to ‘The Press” for giving this incentive to the juniors. The experience gained by Brooks in his 10 days in Sydney, where he would receive coaching as well as play in the tournaments, should be of great benefit to tennis in Canterbury, he said.
