Warm-Up For Walk

(N.Z. Press Association) HAWERA, March 20. The Levin walker, P. Westfield, who finished just three minutes behind the former Olympic Games representative. N. R. Read, in the 11-mile New Plymouth to Waitara road walk on Saturday, performed well in view of earlier occurrences the same day.

Driving up from Levin, Westfield had an unexpected warm-up when his car ran out of petrol six miles south of Hawera at 1 a.m. He walked, loaded with luggage, to his home in Hawera. Then dogged by tiredness, he walked close behind Read and headed several other good walkers in the race.
