FREEZING WORKER SECRETARY

Mr S. Arnst Elected Unopposed Mr S. Arnst has been elected unopposed as secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ Union in succession to Mr T. Handisides, who recently resigned after four years in the position. Mr Arnst, who will take over for a two-year term as from the end of the month, is also national secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Association.

Mr Handisides said yesterday that he had no plans for further work in the trade union movement —“not at the moment, at any rate." Four nominations have been received for the position of president of the Canterbury union, at present filled by Mr Arnst. The contestants are Messrs A. Austin, F. McNulty, R. Moore, and W. T. Pitama. The election will be held by secret ballot soon.
