TRIBUTE TO SIR JAMES SHELLEY

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 20. “I knew Sir James Shelley much better as an academic associate in Christchurch than as Director of Broadcasting.” said Mr J. H. E. Schroder, today. “To know him in the first place was to know a man of amazingly rich and stimulating talent. There was quite literally no-one like him. “I came into the Broadcasting Service only on his retirement and it delighted and did not surprise me to find in 12 or 13 years that ‘the Prof had created a legend and left it living behind him. “He had given the newlyestablished State service pride in itself, a sense of purpose and something of his own ability,” said Mr Schroder.
