ACTIVITY AT LYTTELTON

Note Handed Into Bank A £lO note with a serial number around those of the £ 19,000 Auckland waterfront payroll stolen by the escaped prisoner, Trevor Edward Nash, was handed into a Lyttelton bank on Friday. It cannot be ascertained if this was definitely one of the stolen notes. The hypnotist, Mr M. Ricardo, was in Lyttelton yesterday and the two police dogs Ace and Buck were also in the area. The police had no comment to make last evening and on Saturday would neither confirm nor deny that the bank note had " been handed to the bank. The manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Lyttelton said all banks had been supplied with the numbers of the missing notes but he would make no comment when asked if a note in the series had been handed in to his bank. The police hunt for Nash, who escaped from the Mount Eden Prison on February 3, switched to Lyttelton a week ago when Mr Ricardo and his medium, Mr M. Rogers, contended that the wanted man was hiding in the port. While in a hypnotic trance in Nelson, Mr Rogers said Nash was hiding in a warehouse. It is understood that Mr Ricardo had a different medium yesterday. Between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday an intruder entered the home of Mr F. P. Odell, at 11 Bridle Path road. Lyttelton. When Mrs Odell returned home at 3 p.m. she found the back door open and discovered that the refrigerator door had been left open. Articles on her dressing table had been disturbed. Later in the day it was noticed that a transistor radio was missing. The house had been left unlocked. The Lyttelton police are investigating. A bearded man, dressed in a reefer jacket, and two or three other men were seen investigating dinghies moored near the dry dock at Lyttelton, with a torch about 7.30 p.m. yesterday. Mr Ricardo has a beard. There were two Alsatian dogs in private cars and there was a police car in which a United States sailor was seated.
