ROYAL OVERSEAS LEAGUE

Successful Jubilee Year “The golden jubilee year has been a happy and successful one for the Christchurch branch of the Roval Overseas League.” said the nresident (Mr E. Millton) in his annual renort. “Now strengthened by the stimulating effect of the New Zealand conference, we go forward to play our part, firstly in the community by encouraging a friendly, happy atmosphere among our members, and secondly in the Commonwealth 'by our efforts to promote peace and understanding in a world at present sadlv torn by conflict and distrust.” he said. Functions of the league had been well attended during the year. “An effort has been made to introduce as much variety as possib’e into .the orogramme in order to maintain the interest and support of the great majority of members.” he said. Highlights included the visit of Sir Evelvn Wrench at the end of 1959. and the visit last year of the director-general of the Royal Overseas League, Mr Philip Crawshaw, and Mrs Crawshaw. Mr and Mrs Crawshaw also attended the New Zealand conference of the Royal Overseas League, for which the Christchurch branch was host.
