THE MOTH

( J REYMOUTH yachtsmen have begun inquiries in Christchurch for plans of the Moth-type craft illustrated above. They hope to build the boat as a group project during the winter. The Moth is really a sailing plank, but it is a tricky craft to handle and requires a good deal of sailing skill from the helmsman to keep it upright. Yet, fully-bulkheaded. it is a safe boat and ideal for conditions on the Grey river and lakes in the district. There are one or two Moths on Christchurch waters, and several in Akaroa The headquarters of the class is Blockhouse Bay. Registrations of the type

throughout the Dominion are more than 100. The Greymouth group consider they require a monotype boat to spread sailing with competition around a limited number of members; to their mind, the Moth meets their conditions most suitably The president of the Canterbury Yachting Association (Mr W. H. Beanland) and the racing secretary of the Christchurch club, who owns one of the boats (Mr II Hobden). are co-operating with the Greymouth group in obtaining a plan from which several hulls can be built in an economical community effort in the Greymouth clubhouse
