FARMING IN CHATHAMS
Advisory Officer Appointed <NJt. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 17. A resident farm advisory officer has been appointed to the Chatham Islands. He is Mr S. H. Henry, farm advisory officer at Stratford. He will take up his new appointment shortly. The Minister of Agriculture 'Mr Gillespie) said ton.ighl that there was great scope for farm improvement on the Chathams. Though specialist officers visited the islands from time to time farmers there were entitled to the full-time services of an experienced instructor. Some pasture trials had been laid down and a farm improvement , demonstration begun by the resident officer who would extend such investigations and examine closely all aspects of farming development. Mr E. A. Madden, farm advisory officer (agrostology), who had made periodic visits to the Chathams, would accompany Mr Henry there on March 27 to make a quicksurvey and meet members of the local branch of Federated Farmers with a view to planning a programme for Mr Henry, said Mr Gillespie.
