RACING FOUNTAINHEAD FIRM FANCY FOR STAKES

Embrace-Llanmai Picked For Trentham Double

Fountainhead, whose record-breaking gallop in the Telegraph Handicap was one of the highlights of Wellington Cup day in January, will be a firm favourite for the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham tomorrow. Fountainhead came through the Wellington Cup meeting unbeaten in two starts—he also won the City Handicap—and it will be fairly surprising if he fails to keep his winning record on the course intact for the year. Fountainhead will be at cramped odds if the dual acceptor Cadiz drops out of the field. Trainer J. C. Tomkinson will decide Cadiz’s programme this morning. If he was impressed by Fountainhead's trial at Trentham yesterday, and most people were, Tomkinson might prefer to start Cadiz in the Railway Handicap.

Fountainhead, which may do his Easter racing in Sydney will be ridden by the Auckland jockey. Grenville Hughes Hughes has already won the race on Mainbrace. Somerset Fair, and Coleridge (twice>. W A. Smith, who has ridden the last two Stakes winners. Karina and Yahabeebe will ride the three-year-old Bargoed tomorrow Bargoed is a form runner after a good second over seven furlongs at Pukekohe last Saturday Smith has a great record on stavers and he could win the two miles Autumn Handicap on Embrace tomorrow Light-Weight Embrace is one of the light-weights in a field that falls far below the strength of the Wellington Cup and othe- major cup fields thi* 3 season.
