Men Sentenced For Rape

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 8. A sentence of three years and a half imprisonment was imposed by Mr Justice Haslam in the Supreme Court today on each of three men who were convicted on a joint charge of rape. They are Thomas Pikiwai O'Neill, aged 20, a workman. Raymond Tahu, aged 20. a workman, and More Ruhe. aged 26. a workman. Mr R. Stacey, for the accused, said there was no evidence of lasting psychological damage to the 17-year-old complainant. For the Crown, Mr J. D. Murray said the incidence of multiple rapes in recent months was disturbingly high.

In passing sentence his Honour said offences of this type were all too prevalent, and the law must do what it could to proteqt citizens.
