Repeal Of Act Sought

(NZ Press Associattoni AUCKLAND, March 9. The Federation of New Zealand Justices Association is to ask the Government to remove all statutory restrictions as to evidence which may be published of any judicial proceedings other than the Children’s Court It took this decision at the annual conference in Auckland today. The move, said a Canterbury delegate, Mr R. H. Harris, was designed to restore to the Courts themselves such discretion as they formerly possessed of determining what evidence, if any. should be suppressed. “Restraint of evidence published is often necessary, but I feel the papers can be trusted to give the details they know public opinion requires.” he said. Seconding the remit Mr N. J. G. Speary (Canterbury) said that evidence should not be blanketed by legislation.
