GRAND JURY SYSTEM
Support Given By Justices
(N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 9. The Federation of New Zealand Justices Association’s conference today reaffirmed its support of the grand jury system but suggested that an investigation into modifications could be carried out. Seconding the remit, Mr G. E. Cox said this would ensure that anomalies and any impractical features could be removed while still retaining the fundamental principles. Earlier Mr M. S. Galloway (Wellington) proposing the remit, said that opinion was divided but the grand jury system had fulfilled an important role in New Zealand over the years. “I think we should support this remit and later on, if expedient, we can arrange for a change.” he said.
The remit suggested that such modifications that might be made could be along the lines of those currently applicable in other countries.
