SCHOOL MILK
Questionnaire Criticised
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 8. The president of the Auckland School Committees Association (Mr L. J. Lawrence) today criticised “as a waste of time” the Minister of Education’s plan to send a questionnaire on the milk-in-schools scheme to all parents, because of the short time given to complete the survey. The Minister (Mr Tennent) has asked the Auckland Education Board to arrange for school committees to get the view’s of parents on the continuation of the scheme. The board is seeking the co-operation of school committees and headmasters in the distribution of a fourpoint questionnaire and the collating of replies from parents. The results of the survey have to be in the board’s office not later than March 24. ‘‘The scheme itself is sound enough, but it is utterly impossible to get reasoned replies from parents or guardians in such a short time,” Mr Lawrence said. ‘‘We have to get the questionnaires duplicated, sent out to the parents, and then collate the results in about two weeks. It is impossible.” In its instructions, the board asks that the questionnaire be sent to each family with children at the school, and that the questionnaire be returned within 48 hours.
