DEFEAT OF OREKA

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright SYDNEY, March 8 The New Zealand stayer. Oreka, making his Sydney racing debut at Warwick Farm, today finished well back in a field of 15. But the distance of the race —the Appin Handicap—was only six furlongs, and Oreka did not have any real chance to get going. Carrying top-weight of 8-13, and ridden by the wellknown Sydney jockey, D. Weir, he finished fourth last. The race was won easily by the Brisbane horse. Lion Hunter, from New Stand and Quiet Life. Oreka, one of the Sydney Cup fancies, started at the long odds of 25/1. He found the pace today much too solid but after the race his trainer, R. Bain, said he was satisfied with Oreka’s effort.

(NZ. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 8. The two New Zealand gallopers, Prince Ali and Indian Sultan, which reached Sydney yesterday, will be trained at Randwick by W. S. Jarvis. Prince Ali, a three-year-old colt by Chatsworth, won three races last season, but his recent form has been moderate. Indian Sultan, a four-year-old gelding by Oman, is still a maiden.
