Polo SAVILE CUP TOURNEY
Finalists Will
Meet Today
(N.Z. Press Association) PALM. NORTH. March 8. Morrinsville and Kihikihi will meet in the final of the Savile Cup polo tournament tomorrow.
In semi-final play today Morrinsville had a comparatively easy win over Taupiri by 8 goals to 3. Taupiri’s play was somewhat disappointing, for the team did not reproduce the sparkling form it showed on the previous day in beating Hawke’s Bay. Today’s game was played at a fast pace throughout, with Morrinsville mainly on attack and showing good ball control. In the other semi-final. Wanstead. last year’s Junior Cup winner, which is playing its first year of senior polo, gave the powerful Kihikihi team one of the biggest frights it has had for years, and with a little more luck might have won. Wanstead was not expected to put up much opposition to the experienced Kihikihi team, many time winner of the cup. but it was not until the final stages that Kihikihi established superiority to win by 6 goals to 4. In the Junior Cup competition, Cambridge B will meet Auckland B, and Wairarapa B will meet Poverty Bay in the semi-finals tomorrow. Quarter-final games today resulted:— Cambridge B beat Feilding C. 6-5; Auckland B beat Feilding B. 9-1; Wairarapa B beat Hawke’s Bay B. 3-2; Poverty Bay beat Waimai C, 12-1.
