The appointment of Mr Kaoru Hara as Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand was announced today by the acting-Minister of External Affairs (Mr Eyre). Mr Hara will succeed Mr Shiro Ishiguro, who left New Zealand yesterday to take up an appointment m Japan. Mr Hara, who was born in 1900, entered the diplomatic service in 1928. Between 1930 and 1941 he served in London, New York, Italy and Sao Paulo. From 1942 to 1945 he was employed by the Japanese Foreign Trade Bureau and in 1945 he was appointed to the Foreign Trade Board. After serving at Japanese posts in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil he returned to Japan where, in 1955, he was appointed director of the Overseas Department of the Federation of Economic Organisations. Since 1957, Mr Hara has been the Ambassador for Japan in
Burma. The new Ambassador is expected to arrive in Auckland on March 9, and will present his credentials to the Governor-General (Lord Cobham) before going to Wellington.
