BASIC PARACHUTE -TRAINING
N.Z. Troops Coing To Australia
(N.Z. Press Association ) AUCKLAND. March 4. Some of the toughest troops in the New Zealand Army will leave Whenuapai by air on Sunday night to do a basic parachute training coufse in Australia. They are members of the Ist Special Air Service Squadron. "Two officers and 18 n.c.o.'s and troopers will undergo the course, which entails eight jumps from 1000 ft—seven by day and one by night. Seven Maoris will be included in the party. Three of the party are veteran parachutists who are going to Australia to re-qualify. They are the officer commanding the squadron. Captain J. A. Mace, and Trooper M. Pepene, both of whom made jumps while serving with the SAS. Squadron In Malaya in 19M, and Staff-Sergeant P. Shaw, an assistant parachute jump instructor who previously served with a British parachute regiment.
