Talk To Bank Wives
“A woman can do anything she wants to, if she sets her mind to it,” said Mrs D. V. Sergei at a recent annual meeting of the Christchurch Bank of New Zealand Wives' Club.
Mrs Sergei traced the introduction of women into the Police Force in England in World War L and the greater extension of this branch of the service in New Zealand in World War H in response to the particular needs of the times.
She described the many facets of departmental work dealt with by the Police Department and emphasised the importance to the police of co-operation from the public in reporting any suspicious circumstance and particularly of accuracy in observing unusual details. The president (Mrs L. Evans! thanked the speaker, and also welcomed Mrs W. L. J. Travers, wife of the newly-appointed manager of the Christchurch branch. The following officers were elected: President Mrs N. C Clapp; secretary - treasurer. Mrs J. M. Fraher; committee, Mesdames M Esson, W M Rumbold. W R. Featherston, P T. C. Lockhart E. A. Hay
