School of General Studies. 7387 THE AUSTRALIAN MINERAL DEVELOPMENT LABORATORIES APPLICATIONS are invited for the following positions in The Australian Mineral Development Laboratories which are engaged on an expanding programme of investigations into problems associated with the mineral and mining industries and with geological exploration. The Laboratories consist of an integrated group of well equipped sections which handle mineralogical. chemical and mineral dressing investigations. Three positions are available in the Mineralogy Section which has first class and comprehensive optical equipment with all facilities for section preparation, photomicrography, mineral separation and X-ray diffraction. Two positions are available in the Analytical Section which is fully equipped for all mineral, ore and general Inorganic analyses. SENIOR MINERALOGIST (Position 161) This position offers scope and opportunity for a person with initiative as the successful applicant will be responsible for the operation of the Mineralogy Section.

Applicants must possess a Degree in Geology with Mineralogy and Petrology as major subjects, and should have no less than 5 years’ post-graduate experience. Some experience in field and mining geology and in laboratory supervision would be an advantage. MINERALOGIST (Position 261) Applicants should have a Degree in Geology with Mineralogy and Petrology as major subjects. Some experience in applied mineralogy is desirable and preference will be given to applicants with experience in Mineragraphy. MINERALOGIST (Position 361) Applicants should have a Degree in Geology. Experience in the examination of minerals by X-ray diffraction methods is essential. ANALYSTS (Two positions, 461 and 561) Applicants should be qualified for admission to Associateship of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Experience in General Inorganic Chemical Analysis and a knowledge of modern instrumentation as applied to Inorganic assays and analysis are essential. CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT } After a suitable probationary neriod successful applicants will be eligible to contribute to the Superannuation Fund. Although the appointments will be made to staff positions with headquarters at the Parkside Laboratories it may be necessary for appointees to undertake field assignments for limited periods throughout Australia, the Territories and South-east Asia. Salary: The salaries for all positions will be determined in relation to qualifications and experience and will be subject to yearly increases based on merit.
