Trial Ends In Paris PARIS, March 3. The “Trial of the Barricades” ended in Paris with a sentence of death passed on Joseph Ortiz, a cafe owner and leader of the Algerian settlers' revolt. Ortiz was sentenced in his absence, as was the other ringleader. Pierra Lagaillarde, the bearded former paratrooper, who was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Both could claim new trials if they returned to France, British United Press said. They are in exile in Spain. Four other men were sentenced in their absence to terms of hard labour. One man absent, and all 12 who stayed in France for their trial or returned during the proceedings, were acquitted. All 19 men on trial were charged with acts against the internal security of the State except Alain de Seringy. former editor of the newspaper "Echo d'Alser.” who was charged with complicity. He was acquitted.
