FASHION PARADE

Graduates Of Model School

Opportunity to present new Christchurch models to the public and to the fashion trade was taken on Wednesday evening when a Christchurch school of deportment presented a fashion parade in a city restaurant.

Six of the students modelled garments which had been given for the occasion by Christchurch manufacturing firms and department stores.

The girls had been trained by a Wellington model (Miss Carole MacDonald), who explained that the object the course was to give students confidence and to bring out their personalities, rather than to concentrate on modelling instruction. The women came from all walks of life, and their ages ranged from 15 to 50. Training includes make-up hairstyling, hostessing and modelling classes, and instruction in deportment and poise.

"Round the World in 90 Fashions” was the theme of the parade. The compere (Mrs Marjorie Charlton, Wellington) introduced models wearing typical clothes of many holi-

day spots of the world. They ranged from bikinis to haute couture day and evening wear. Each country was bidden farwell for those watching the parade by solo dancing—a hula dance from Hawaii, the can-can from Paris, an English rose ballet from London.

Flowers used had been flown from Fiji specially for the occasion. One model, showing a trim and smart black swimsuit. had a real hibiscus tucked into her hair. Orchids were seen also.

At the close of the parade, 20 graduates from the school were presented with diplomas of merit by the Mayoress of Christchurch (Mrs G. Manning). The Continental School of Deportment, at which the women were trained, has begun its second course of training. The models who paraded and the graduates who received diplomas were all students of the first course, which was conducted in the latter months of last year.
